Emergency or provisional credentials
This shows the percentage of teachers holding emergency or provisional teaching credentials as reported by the state. While teachers with emergency or provisional credentials may have industry or educational experience that contributes to the classroom, they may be unprepared for the challenges of classroom instruction. Furthermore, a low percentage of fully-credentialed teachers may indicate that a school has difficulty attracting and retaining qualified teachers. Source: IL State Board of Education, 2006-2007
Classes not taught by highly qualified teachers
This shows the percentage of classes not taught by teachers designated as highly qualified, as defined by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. NCLB defines highly qualified teachers as being certified to teach in the subject areas for which they are employed. Source: IL State Board of Education, 2006-2007
